Mystic Reflections

Fantasy art figures created by polymer clay artist, Caralyn, from Atlanta, Ga. Owner of Mystic Reflections since 2003.

Artist’s Bio: A little over a decade ago, my sister helped me start up my art business ā€œMystic Reflections.ā€ At the time, I had just a small website and most of my artwork was black-and-white sketches that I sold at craft shows. In 2007, I sculpted my first Myxies (fairy sculptures), dragons, and animal pals. My early sculptures were made from an air-drying clay. I now use polymer clay, having refined my materials along with my techniques and tools.

After trying for several years, I was finally accepted into the Dragon Con Art show in 2008. I’ve been fortunate enough to be accepted back every year, which has continuously made it my largest annual event. To date, I’ve received six awards from the art show for various pieces. My workā€™s popularity has grown steadily due to the exposure Dragon Con provides, and I look forward to this exciting convention each year. Several smaller shows discovered me through Dragon Con and have approached me about being their featured artist.

Two years ago, I was able to leave my corporate job to pursue my art full-time. This allowed me to dedicate more time to perfecting my craft and gave me the opportunity to illustrate my first childrenā€™s book, “The Adventures of Mend.” It was my first experience as a contracted professional illustrator.

Every year, my business continues to grow, and I’m able to create a multitude of artworks for people to enjoy. I hand-make each of my sculptures, never using molds so each piece is one-of-a-kind. These unique creations prove to be the most popular of my pieces.

With this post we are starting a new series of music players featuring trance/electronic podcasts and dj mix sets added to our site (thanks to the power of SoundCloud and WordPress). We wanted to provide some music for artists (or just anyone who loves electronic music) to listen to while working on their artwork or just hanging out. We’re really into Lange’s Create podcast series. So we decided to start with the very first episode to get this music party started. We’ll be adding more from this series as well as other music podcasts and long play dj mix sets as time goes on. The panel was part of a large-scale installation entitled The Palace Yurt, commissioned by Cooper Hewitt for the 2009 exhibition Fashioning Felt. During research trips to Central Asia and Mongolia, Arnold became fascinated by the trellis tents of Kygyzstan (boz Ć¼y) and Mongolia (ger). Intrigued by tales of Chinggis Qan, whose tents were said to hold over 1000 men, she began drawings for The Palace Yurt. In 13th century Mongolia, the oversized traditional door flap was associated with kingship[1] both symbolically and literally.
