Free Cross Stitch Patterns From Sullivans

Cross Stitch Patterns At Sullivans

We ran across a great resource for cross stitch enthusiasts who may want to get some free cross stitch patterns and we want to share them in this freebie post. We would also like to recognize our artist directory member, Caralyn Edwards of Mystic Reflections who creates beautifully detailed fantasy art sculptures from polymer clay. We’ll have more info on her work for you toward the end of this post, but first lets get on with our topic concerning free cross stitch patterns from Sullivans.

Sullivans Project Central has some great, and free cross stitch patterns you can download for quick projects.

You will find a Spring collection which includes a “Bluebird”, “Geraniums”, and “Gardens” themed project.

In the Summer collection there are “Flip Flops”, “Sandpail”, and “Sailboat” projects. The sailboat photo at the top of this post is the sailboat project included in these free downloads and it would make a great project to make, frame, and then hang in your bathroom.

In the Autumn collection there are “Fall Leaves”, “Harvest Time”, “Autumn Quilt”, “Best Witches”, “Pumpkin Smiles”, and “Witch Hat” themed projects.

There are six more patterns in the Winter collection which includes “Hot Cocoa”, “Flurries”, “Snowflakes”, “Holiday Wreath”, “Joy”, and “Santa With Bells” projects.

You can find all of these great patterns at Sullivans Project Central.

It should be noted that the page also includes links to some Glendonplace patterns for purchase, however if you surf those links you will quickly find that apparently the website owners at Sullivans haven’t done a great job at maintaining thier website (or at least that page) since the links do not point directly to the exact products they are linking to. We found that you can still find the items by searching for the titles on the Glendonplace website, and we suggest browsing thier website for great products. Glendonplace even has a printed catalog you can buy if you prefer catalog shopping.

UPDATE: Upon further research, it appears you can download these patterns and more here.

TechRadar’s Guide To The Best Portable Music Players

TechRadar MP3 Players

Thank you for checking out this tech article at NWOAA. This is our first tech related article to date, and you may wonder why we’re breaking into posting about tech if we are online for promoting artists in America. We say, “why not”? It gives us a chance to bring more content to you that you may find interesting and also more chances as we post more blog posts on varying subjects to promote our directory members. So essentially we’re killing two birds with one stone by helping you connect with news that matters, and discover the awesome art talent we represent in our directory that we hope you become new fans of. In this post we would like to recognize Caralyn Edwards of Mystic Reflections who creates beautifully detailed fantasy art sculptures from polymer clay. We’ll have more info on her work for you toward the end of this post, but first lets get on with our topic concerning MP3 players.

Why would you need an MP3 player today?

Despite the popularity of smartphones in today’s tech world, and the convenience they give us for listening to music (among other things) from our own personal music collections (all those mp3’s we’ve been collecting for years), plus all the great music apps we can use such as Spotify (my chosen music app), Google Music, Amazon, etc., MP3 players are not dead. If you really love music, they are still the best dedicated music device to have if all you want to do is listen to your music without being tied to your phone. In my case, I love my mp3 player because it is smaller than my phone, and I can escape completely away from my phone. I can just dive into my music without running my phone battery down or hearing distracting notifications from other things on my phone while trying to listen to my music.

Today I am bringing you a link to an article by Christian de Looper at TechRadar (the source for tech buying advice) who can give you a few more reasons to consider having an mp3 player in your tech life, and show you some nice models to consider owning. The article is titled “Best MP3 Players: TechRadar’s guide to the best portable music players” and you can click this link to read it on TechRadar’s website. Christian not only shows you some great MP3 player options, but also includes links to full reviews of these devices to help you determine if they could suit your needs.

I would like to add that I have purchased some great low cost mp3 players on ebay, particularly Ruizu brand mp3 players that have suited me just fine for every day use of sorting through and listening to my own personal collection of thousands of mp3’s I have.

Cutethulhu Nuzzling Skull – Polymer Clay Sculpture From Mystic Reflections

Mystic Reflections Clay Sculpture

Here is an awesome, one of a kind fantasy art sculpture from Mystic Reflections created by Caralyn Tucker.

From her etsy shop post for this item she writes: “This tiny ElderGod just wants to make you go a little mad from all the cuteness. My Cutethulhu sculptures are handmade, one of a kind pieces. Each one is hand-crafted from polymer clay and then delicately painted. The tiny polymer clay body parts they hold in their hands are also each handmade. No molds are used in creating my sculptures and each one can take several hours to sculpt. These sculptures are approximately 2-3 inches in size. Sculpting is a hobby I really enjoy. I hope you enjoy my art as much as I enjoy making it.”

You can view and purchase this item in her shop if still available on etsy by clicking here.

Artist’s Bio: A little over a decade ago, my sister helped me start up my art business “Mystic Reflections.” At the time, I had just a small website and most of my artwork was black-and-white sketches that I sold at craft shows. In 2007, I sculpted my first Myxies (fairy sculptures), dragons, and animal pals. My early sculptures were made from an air-drying clay. I now use polymer clay, having refined my materials along with my techniques and tools.

After trying for several years, I was finally accepted into the Dragon Con Art show in 2008. I’ve been fortunate enough to be accepted back every year, which has continuously made it my largest annual event. To date, I’ve received six awards from the art show for various pieces. My work’s popularity has grown steadily due to the exposure Dragon Con provides, and I look forward to this exciting convention each year. Several smaller shows discovered me through Dragon Con and have approached me about being their featured artist.

Two years ago, I was able to leave my corporate job to pursue my art full-time. This allowed me to dedicate more time to perfecting my craft and gave me the opportunity to illustrate my first children’s book, “The Adventures of Mend.” It was my first experience as a contracted professional illustrator.

Every year, my business continues to grow, and I’m able to create a multitude of artworks for people to enjoy. I hand-make each of my sculptures, never using molds so each piece is one-of-a-kind. These unique creations prove to be the most popular of my pieces.

Please remember that if you are receiving our blog post emails and these tweets don’t appear in your email, please click the post link in your email to view on our website, otherwise you’re probably going to just see a long list of twitter url’s. These are the urls which become embedded content when viewed on our website.

That’s it for this edition of Tweet Digest at NWOAA. If you are an artist, photographer, or crafty creator residing in the United States, and would like to be listed in our directory for promotion, please visit our listings page for details.

Tweet Digest #1

tweet_digest_000001

Today we are starting something new on our blog to keep great content coming to you. With the power of wordpress embedding, we’re collecting our favorite tweets from twitter and posting them in blog posts on our website. Sort of like our Art Raids on Instagram, this is a way of archiving great content we’ve seen on twitter.

There are a few reasons for us wanting to doing this.

  1. This allows us to share tweets of extra content we liked directly on our website without cluttering up our personal twitterfeed since we prefer to save that for promoting artists in our directory.
  2. We don’t want to blow up our followers personal newsfeeds on twitter that they may not be following us for to see since our primary goal is promoting the artists in our directory, and by the same notion we don’t want our promotional tweets for our directory members getting clouded out by too much erroneous material being retweeted on our twitter account.
  3. As we mentioned archiving, this gives us an easy way of finding content we wanted to blog about, but didn’t have time for when a tweet was posted on twitter from someone we follow. Or we don’t have to blog about any item at all since we’ve saved a tweet for it here in one of our Tweet Digests.
  4. You may even discover some great accounts you would like to follow on twitter by checking out these Tweet Digests we create, and unlike how tweets get lost through time on twitter, the tweets we save here will stay in place unless of course was removed by the tweet’s content owner on twitter.
  5. This is another method we will use to promote the work of artists who are in our directory as we will occasionally be posting VIP editions of our Tweet Digests. If you aren’t aware, we have a VIP list on our twitter account where we follow only the artists who are listed in our directory.

If you are receiving our blog post emails and these tweets don’t appear in your email, please click the post link in your email to view on our website, otherwise you’re probably going to just see a long list of twitter url’s. These are the urls which become embedded content when viewed on our website.

Please note, our website is ad free, however since the content on this page is pulled from twitter via embedding, you may see some ads in video tweets.

There are 50 tweets in this issue, and we will post 50 tweets in each future issue of our Tweet Digest.

So without further ado, lets get on with our first roundup of our favorite tweets on twitter. We hope you see something useful.

That’s it for this edition of Tweet Digest at NWOAA. If you are an artist, photographer, or crafty creator residing in the United States, and would like to be listed in our directory for promotion, please visit our listings page for details.

Just our way of helping you find good music to listen to when you are making art, studying, or just chillin’ out. We hope you enjoy the album recommendations. UPDATE: Friday, September 29th, 2017

Here is a review of the album we found on trance.nu that was posted on Wednesday, January 16th, 2008:

Sander van Doorn is one of the biggest dance music success stories of recent years. Making his name with tightly produced and crisply mastered tech trance bombs, the reluctant superstar from Eindhoven quickly shot to the higher echelons of the dance world, conquering every corner of the globe with razor sharp, crowd pleasing DJ sets. His infectious enthusiasm and personality have won him legions of fans who will no doubt be licking their lips, as here is his debut artist album, Supernaturalistic. This has been sneaked out with a minimum of fuss and very little fanfare, with recent productions serving more to confuse than to confirm what sort of musical ride we are in for.

The dancefloor perfection of Riff, the mildly irritating King Bee sample on By Any Demand and the minimalist masterpiece Grasshopper are all present and correct, albeit in heavily edited forms. All three tracks were huge dancefloor hits for the Dutchman, especially in his home country where they dominated both the dance and commercial charts. These have been played to death over the past year though, and sadly there is no place for the mesmerising King Of My Castle, so of more interest is the rest of the album.

Look Inside Your Head is an excellent intro, a haunting melody that segues neatly into Riff. Fans of his much-missed Purple Haze alias will lap up the hypnotic, trancey 15 and forthcoming single The Bass with its ‘French Kiss’ style climax is reminiscent of early Sander and another sure-fire dancefloor smash. The obligatory downtempo moment is present and correct in the shape of Lobby, and, like the rest of the album, it is awash with dark overtones yet remains a starkly beautiful piece of electronica.

His passion for minimal techno, first shown on Grasshopper, is expanded on the tracks Sushi and Apple. Apple is the more effective of the two, a chugging groove building to transfixing melodic climax while Sushi is like a cricket to the far superior Grasshopper. Elsewhere, the skittering, menacing Dozer, mooted as a future single, will be causing plenty of future dancefloor destruction, as will the brooding and melodic Pura Vida. Closing track Outrospective finally provides a ray of optimism on an otherwise bleak album that is immediately ruined by some completely needless arrogance tacked on at the end that tarnishes all that has gone before it. Hear it to believe it.

Conclusion

Sander van Doorn delivers a slickly produced, smooth flowing, varied opus, with each track neatly edited and melded together. However it is overall completely lacking soul and is oppressively, relentlessly dark and bleak. Tech trance albums can be done well, shown by the crowd pleasing hooks that burst from a Marco V album, or recent brilliant efforts from the likes of Stephan J. Kroos and DJ Preach. Those albums have character, life. Supernaturalistic is choc full of past, present and future dancefloor hits yet as an album it’s a curiously morose listen that is about as exciting as the track titles. Some full vocal tracks perhaps would give it a bit more of a human element but overall this is a reflection of the music he plays, made for the club, not the bedroom. A great artist album is no doubt in Sander van Doorn’s veins but this, sadly, isn’t it. 3/5

Here is another review from BBC:

This is a solid clubbers’ album that will secure van Doorns place in the Dutch Trance…

Paul Sullivan 2008

That the Dutchies love their big-room sounds is no secret. From Sander Kleinenberg and Tiesto to Ferry Corsten, Marco V and Armin van Buuren: The country has churned out more than its fair share of high profile crowd-pleasers, many of whom have straddled not only the realms of techno and trance but also the usual divisions between underground and mainstream.

Sander Van Doorn is the latest in this royal lineage, and Supernaturalistic his statement of intent. Hailed by some as ‘the saviour of trance’, fans of van Doorn will know he’s as much of a techno aficionado as a trance don, and many of his key productions – Dark Roast and Grasshopper; King of My Castle and By Any Demand – merge these genres in a savvy and uplifting manner.

On Supernaturalistic, the DJ/Producer continues the same line of attack, flitting between hands-in-the-air euphoria and deeper, more penetrative workouts. Following the compelling intro Look Inside Your Head, fans will be delighted to hear the growling, pulsing fury of van Doorn’s anthemic Riff, a monster of a tune whose power has not diminished over time.

His King Bee-sampling By Any Demand, on the other hand, still carries the whiff of cheesy novelty that made it hit and miss for many of us in the first place. 15, Apple, and Pura Vida get things back on track, bringing into play van Doorn’s penchant for heady, euphoric sounds and an undercurrent of serious dancefloor hedonism.

More subtle fare is proffered too: the pounding Sushi, forthcoming single The Bass, (a monster of a track that carries a memorable French Kiss-style build), and the previously released Grasshopper, one of his more epic moments all underline the producer’s penchant for a spot of minimalism.

Elsewhere van Doorn shows off his expanded palette by tackling melodic mid tempo fillers (Lobby) and coming up with leftfield tunes like the skittering, menacing Dozer. Closing track, Outrospective, provides a ray of optimism that we realize has been notably lacking on Supernaturalistic. But despite a dearth of vocals and a general play-it-safe approach, this is a solid clubbers’ album that will secure van Doorns place in the Dutch Trance Hall Of Fame.

And here is a wiki about the album.
